NYU Medical Center - Electrophysiology Lab
New York, NYThe Medical Center renovated an existing Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and associated support areas to facilitate the installation of a new piece of electrophysiology equipment. The system incorporates new technology utilizing computer based navigation of interventional devices. A magnetic field positioned next to the patient steers the device as it is automatically advanced through the heart and coronary vasculature, replacing the standard procedure of manually feeding the catheter or guide-wire. Extensive magnetic and radiation shielding was required to minimize interference with equipment in surrounding areas, specifically an existing neurosurgery suite above.
